Post Hurricane Irma Hotel Update

As you know, it has been a challenging time for many in Irma's path and for our hotels - preparing our buildings for Hurricane Irma, ensuring our guests and staff were relocated to safe areas and enduring Irma herself. Thank you for bearing with us during these important efforts.

Immediately following the storm, we were working with limited systems, through intermittent power issues, and assessing the buildings and property for damage. The majority of our staff was only permitted to return to the hotel on September 12th.

We are thankful and relieved to report that the hotels sustained only minor damage. We have been busy making repairs and working to restore all facilities, systems, and services.

On the morning of Wednesday, Sept 13th, the hotels officially reopened to guests and all reservations scheduled to check in on 9/13 and beyond will be honored. We are doing our best to restore all services as quickly as possible and will have more information available soon.

If you were scheduled to arrive prior to Sept 13th and were delayed due to the storm or your travel plans have changed, please contact our reservations department at 305-538-5711 or reservations@gomiamibeach.com

If you have other questions, please direct them to the number or email above. We are happy to assist you. For several days more, we will have a limited ability to respond to Facebook posts.

If you plan to travel to Miami or Miami Beach, please be aware that many impacts of the storm are yet unresolved - some businesses were more heavily affected than ours, airports are not fully open, and travel may be challenging for the next few days.

Please check with your airlines, car rental companies, etc for their recommendations and more information on your reservations.

Again, thank you for your patience with and concern for us and the hotel. We are grateful and excited to welcome you back to the Marseilles Hotel, standing strong.

Warmest Regards,

Management

Tips on Getting Around Miami Beach

Going on vacation can be a lot of fun, but sometimes travelers overlook important considerations, such as getting around when one arrives in a strange city. Vacationers planning to stay at our  Miami beachfront hotel typically find the area fun and fascinating, but working out transportation in a new city can be a bit challenging. However, by following some simple tips, this part of the trip can be as seamless and hassle free as traveling around one's hometown.

Taxis to Bayside

For a fun day of sightseeing, shopping and dining out, visitors should consider using the local water taxi service to Bayside. Water taxis are a terrific alternative to their traditional counterparts and not only are they cost effective, water taxi rides across the bay are also fun and interesting, particularly for those who have never before experienced such an excursion. In fact, taking the water taxi is almost a tourist attraction in and of itself, but one that also serves a practical purpose.

Local Free Trolley Service

Fortunately, Miami Beach also has a wonderful free trolley service for those who want to travel quickly from one local area to the next. Most of the trolleys run continuously from 8 AM to 7 PM on a daily basis and include popular stops, such as the following:

It is always wise to check schedules in advance because certain stops may be made less frequently on specific days. In addition, the trolley service has very limited availability on the six major holidays.

Bus Tours to Sawgrass Mills

Sawgrass Mills shopping district is a major attraction in the Miami area, and many people choose to take a bus tour to this exciting mall. Not only is it a fun and interesting way to meet other people, joining a bus tour takes away all the stress of driving in this busy shopping district, making the excursion far more enjoyable than if one had to rent a car and navigate the road alone.

Traveling on Foot

There are also some very simple ways to avoid public transportation altogether if this is what one prefers. For example, booking a Miami beachfront hotel within walking distance to most attractions, such as the
Marseilles Hotel, is a wise course of action if one would rather sightsee and visit restaurants on foot. The Boardwalk and Lincoln Road are two great places to spend time and are in easy walking distance from most hotels. One can also get additional ideas from the hotel concierge about where the most interesting places are at the time of year he or she is visiting the area. Ultimately, those who choose Miami as their vacation destination are sure to have an unforgettable experience that will be remembered for many years to come.

Lincoln Road, Miami Beach.

Lincoln Road

Lincoln Road Mall in Miami Beach, Florida is a road restricted to just pedestrian traffic. It lies parallel from east to west between 16th Street and 17th Street. Where cars once traveled, shoppers can now enjoy a multitude of stores, galleries, restaurants, and businesses that stretch form the Atlantic Ocean to Biscayne Bay.
The History of Lincoln Road

The area where Lincoln Road is found was once a forest of mangroves. Carl Fisher cleared a strip of these in 1912 that eventually became the social center of the town. Over time it became a prime location for businesses including Saks Fifth Avenue, Bonwit Teller, and Packard and Cadillac dealerships.

Morris Lapidus was asked to redesign Lincoln Road in the 1950s. His design featured fountains, gardens, an amphitheater, and shelters with Miami Modern Architecture predominate. The road was then closed to all traffic except pedestrians making it the first pedestrian mall in the country.

Lincoln Road remained the same until a renovation in 1997 by Martha Schwartz. Fountains and landscaping that had deteriorated during the 1980s were restored. Today’s Lincoln Road is the home of a multiplex cinema, several local merchants, more than 200 boutiques, many national retailers, and a wide variety of restaurants and bars. It has become one of the top destinations for South Beach visitors.
Things to Do At Lincoln Road

The shopping is what draws visitors in. Lincoln Road takes on the atmosphere of an open air market with wares like hand crafted jewelry, homemade items, and origami displayed on card tables set along the road side or on textiles spread across the ground. On the weekends you can find a variety of food market stands selling everything from local produce to baked treats.

Lincoln Road isn’t just a flea market type of experience. This area is home to name brand stores too. Spend your afternoon browsing through trendy spots like Forever 21 and H & M. Top brands are found here such as J. Crew, Madewell, Lacoste, and John Varvatos. Unique shops like Books and Books, The Apple Store, and the Romero Britto Gallery are also scattered among the businesses.

There is no shortage of eateries on Lincoln Road. Whether you are looking for a quick lunch or a fancy dinner, they have it covered. It is also the place to be for a cup of coffee or a casual drink. Nespresso offers all the latest tastes in coffee. Grab a cup and enjoy the seating that comes with the perfect view for people watching. Later you can enjoy a cocktail at Haven. This place has an electric vibe and stunning views of the surrounding area.

Be sure to take the time to explore Lincoln Road on your next visit to Miami Beach. Along with plenty of shopping and dining, this pedestrian mall features street performers for your entertainment. There are several places to stay nearby like the
Marseilles Hotel with accommodations along the shore.

Miami Beach Art Deco Distric

The Art Deco District located in Miami Beach, Florida is part of the Register of Historic Places due to the historical significance of 800 buildings. Most of these were constructed between 1923 and 1943. The buildings are gorgeous with sleek curves, porthole styled windows, terrazzo flooring, glass blocks and shiny chrome.

Many of the buildings fly flags from the ocean liners that used the dock in the 1930's. The hotels are luxurious and extravagant. The Marseilles Hotel is in Miami Beach's heart and soul.
The Marseilles Hotel combines comfort, sophistication, serenity and charm. There are photographs available at http://www.marseilleshotel.com/.

The entire area is reminiscent of a postcard and has always drawn the biggest of Hollywood stars such as Rita Hayworth, Carole Lombard and Clark Gable. It is no wonder when just a couple steps takes you to beaches filled with sapphire waves and golden sand. The skyline is stunning and nothing short of magnificent. Musicians sing and play instruments in the park filling the air with rhythm.

The Miami Preservation League was founded in 1976 and makes its home here. They have stopped the bulldozers and restored numerous hotels to the days of their grandeur. Their tours are fascinating and brochures and colorful books are available.

The Spanish styled mansion that once housed the Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace is a must see. This 1930 residence is named Casa Casaurina. This is now a private mansion featuring amazing parties.

There is even a tower twelve stories tall which was designed by L. Murray Dixon in 1936. This is an art deco monolith with beautiful porthole windows. The curves on the building are the epitome of art deco.

The buildings are restored and you can see the original light sconces, furniture and woodwork. There are illustrious collections of art, deco pools and waterfalls. Esther Williams used the outline of the waterfall in movies from the forties and fifties. MTV filmed a dance show in the same location several decades later. How much more luxurious can it be than to have a poolside bar with full service right next to a wood burning pizza oven.

There is so much to see and do in the Deco Art District. Lincoln Road is an outdoor mall with the most charming shops and boutiques. This entire area is steeped in history, stories, beauty, elegance and class. This is a place everyone should see only one visit will never be enough.

Winter Music Conference

Long before EDM (electronic dance music, for those who don't know yet) became known as EDM, Miami's annual Winter Music Conference has been bringing artists, DJs, industry representatives, and aficionados together to celebrate the music and debate its direction. The conference has grown and developed over its 32-year history to become, as Amanda Savage described it for the Phoenix New Times in March, 2014, "the EDM world's most influential industry conference." She added, "It's a "Who's Who" of world-renowned DJs, beatsmiths, producers, mixmasters, and other EDM movers and shakers."

Bring Your Business Cards and Demos

The Winter Music Conference is attended not only by EDM creators, but also by artist management agencies, record label/A & R representatives, booking agents, venue and event promoters, music promoters, marketing and public relations agencies, advertising and brand activation agencies, and online music retailers, any of whom might become interested in promoting you and your work. You could meet a representative from a recording studio who might offer a contract or at least the chance to cut a demo. You could meet someone who might be interested in shooting a video. You could meet a representative from a video and visual services company or an event production company that could help you with the visuals, sound, lighting, and staging that would add more excitement to your performances. So, as EDM.com advised those planning to attend WMC 2015, "print lots of business cards and talk to every single person you encounter. You never know how the person next to you could help you achieve your dream."

WMC's Impact

The Winter Music Conference is one of the most highly publicized events for EDM. In 2016, nearly 2,000 artists and DJs took part in almost 400 performances at over 100 venues that included clubs as well as beach locations. The conference draws attendees from more than 70 countries. During the course of a year, the WMC website receives more than one billion unique viewer media impressions, and, during the 2016 season, more than 2,000,000 people from 209 territories and countries logged on to the site.

Seminars, Workshops, Competitions, Awards, Networking, and Parties

The Winter Music Conference combines club and beach parties with opportunities to learn how to take your career and skills to the next step. The parties are your chance to have fun and hear what's new from established EDM artists and DJs, but don't forget to introduce yourself, find out who people are, and let them know who you are. You never know what connections you might make. If you attend the Remixing and Editing Workshop, you can improve your skills and your music. At the Demo Listening Workshop, you can get the kind of feedback from the experts that will turn your demo into one that convinces them to sign you. At the panel discussions, you'll hear about the latest trends and issues within EDM. At the Q & A sessions, you can get your questions answered. You'll find the latest products, service, and technology on display at the two-day exhibit show. Enjoy, but watch, listen, learn, and be inspired as the master's compete during the VJ Challenge and the Scratching and Beat Matching DJ Spinoffs.

How to Register

You can register online or download the registration form from the Winter Music Conference site and email, fax, or mail it. The Conference runs from March 21 through March 24, 2017. Discounts are available for early registration. Deadline dates for discounts are February 24, 2017 for $150 off, and March 17, 2017 for $100 off. Full price admission is $495. Registration includes the WMC Sample Sack, free or reduced admission to WMC Official and Sanctioned Events, and access to the List and all other events, seminars, panels, Q & A's, and workshops with the exception of the Remixing and Editing Workshop. The List will help you plan your time so that you don't miss a thing.

The Best of Both Worlds

Miami, located on the mainland, is peppered with clubs, historical landmarks, state-of-the-art restaurants, and outstanding shopping opportunities. Miami Beach, situated in Biscayne Bay, is regarded by many as the American Riviera, with its pristine beaches, shady palms, warm, tropical sun, and of course, a boisterous nightlife.

Exciting Club District

The colorful club district of Miami Beach offers party-goers a wide selection of restaurants, nightclubs and lounges. Establishments are available to please essentially any budget or preference, and regardless of what kind of fare a person prefers, it is somewhere on the beach waiting to be discovered. Clubs are typically opened late into the night and if you do not wish to drive after a night of drinking and dancing, you can rest assured that plenty of public transportation options are available.

If you are looking for a stimulating nightlife that features a touch of Cuba, you should definitely visit Little Havana. This area offers an authentic Cuban ambiance against the stunning backdrop of the beach. Sumptuous food and the aroma of delicious Cuban coffee scent the air, and Caribbean steel drums and Latino dance beats are often heard echoing through the Coconut Grove district.

Wonderful hotels and resorts are available such as the aforementioned Collins Avenue Hotel http://www.marseilleshotel.com/our-hotel/ , where a friendly staff is available to ensure that your vacation exceeds your expectations.

In the area's famous South Beach, you can cruise the strip and view impressive architecture, characterized by streamlined Art Deco structures, dance clubs, and Miami bars with unique designs. Dance clubs in the South Beach area are continuously seeking to outdo each other with their interior décor, top-notch DJs, and fashionable patrons which include wealthy tycoons, celebrities and famous media personalities.

In addition, a new era of clubs have appeared off the beach in Midtown Miami and the Design District. Most of the lounges and clubs on or off the beach feature multiple floors and rooms, complete with their own musical styles and themes so that you are never bored even if you spend the evening in only one club.

Regardless of your individual goals for your getaway, they can come true in Miami. However, it is always wise to make reservations at our Collins Avenue Hotel as soon as you know your travel dates to avoid being shut out. Ultimately, a visit to this stimulating and exciting area is the perfect way to create the memories of a lifetime.

Why Now is the Perfect Time to Enjoy Some Winter Sun in Miami Beach

It's that time of year when the wind bites hard and the snow falls heavy, lingering on the ground for weeks at a time. Though beautiful at times, this season can leave a little something to be desired.

Namely WARMTH. And beaches. And sun.

Luckily for you, there's Miami Beach!

During this time of year the rest of the country slows down, stays inside, and waits for a better time to come. Miami Beach on the other hand, is already at its best.

The city's subtropical climate allows for warmth year-round and temperatures tend to hover around the mid-70s throughout the winter months.

If that wasn't enough, winter also brings some of the best festivals and events to the city, making Miami a great place to be during the season. No need to stay inside.

Below are some of the best reasons to visit Miami Beach this time of year.

A Thriving and Diverse Culinary Scene

In recent years, Miami has solidly emerged as a city of culinary excellence. Whether you're looking for authentic Cuban food, fine dining, or fantastic cheap eats and diner fare, Miami has it all. The city's best dishes were once found in a few select spots, but great food can now be found throughout the city - all the way from South Beach to Brickell to Little Havana.

South Beach Wine & Food Festival
The South Beach Wine & Food Festival takes place every February and brings all of the culinary excitement of Miami into one star-studded event. Culinary celebrities such as Rachael Ray, Anthony Bourdain, and Martha Stewart are just a few of the celebrities that have attended the yearly event. Events, tastings, parties, dinners, and demonstrations fill the event's five-day span and make this one delicious celebration not to be missed.

Carnaval Miami and Calle Ocho Festival

Miami hosts numerous celebrations in February and March to celebrate Carnaval. The Calle Ocho Festival in Miami as well as its sister festival, Carnaval on the Mile in Coral Gables, draw huge crowds every year. The Calle Ocho Festival includes salsa dancing, Latin American and Caribean food, and a range of entertainment performances.

International Arts and Culture

In addition to the amazing food scene and the massive celebrations, Miami Beach is no stranger to the arts. Musuems such as The Perez Art Museum (PAMM) houses contemporary and modern art collections from around the world. The Miami International Film Festival (MIFF) comes to the city every winter, and serves as a major showcase of international, independent and documentary films.

The Beaches

Last but not least, the gorgeous Miami Beaches are still the heart of this amazing city. Popular spots such as the Lummus Park Beach and Haulover Beach are great for watching the ocean surf, or the people - models, body-builders, and other interesting characters populate spots along the white sand.

If you're looking for the perfect getaway from your mid-Winter blues, look no more. The warm climate, active community, festivals, and arts scene of Miami Beach may be just what the doctor ordered. Check out our great Miami Beachfront Hotel in order to fulfill the order!
